The EUROsociAL+ Programme has assisted Chile with several reforms of key public policies to improve social cohesion. It coordinates its activities with Chilean institutions through the Chilean Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AGCID) and the European Union’s Delegation in the country.

EUROSociAL+ began its dialogue with Chile in 2016, with missions for identifying demands with 15 institutions. After the change of government, in March 2018, a mission was carried out in May 2019, to prepare future country round table consultations. In April 2020, a virtual preliminary country round table was held to monitor the actions and new demands.

Among the most noteworthy actions is the one related to the constitutional process that was launched in Chile, which is one of the most innovative of recent times. The Constitutional Convention selected has equal representation and incorporates participation by indigenous peoples, placing the process at the forefront of comparative constitutional law. It seeks to draft and approve a new constitution as well as set a process in motion that can serve as an international benchmark.

It is important for a country to look beyond its own borders in order to nurture this reflection. Which is why Chile’s National Congress, through the Libray of Congress, and European Union Delegation in the country, with support from the EUROsociAL+ programme programme in whose management FIIAPP participates, have launched a series of Webinars "Chile Unión Europea Dialogues".
