The EUROsociAL+ Programme accompanies Panama in several reforms of key public policies to improve social cohesion. It coordinates its action with Panamanian institutions through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union’s Delegation in the country.
Panama participates in all three of the EUROsociAL+ Programme activity areas to acquire the best practice of its Latin American and European peers in the:
- Social Policies Area: with lines of action on policies for young adults, adolescents and childhood, and care policies. We contributed towards the elaboration of the legal and political-institutional framework that guides the policies, plans, programmes, projects and, in general, the actions of the Panamanian State and civil society, with the purpose of guaranteeing the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights to which young people are entitled. Alongside this, we are working on a plan to guarantee the quality of life of older adults by meeting their needs, their active participation and the promotion of their rights via the responses coordinated by the State and the Community.
- Democratic Governance policy area: we are working on the access to justice line of action, with which we contribute towards the reuniting of families in a neutral space (Family Meeting Point), guaranteeing the interests of minors in situations of conflict, and providing professional guidance for the improvement of parent-child relationships and parenting skills and the improvement of alternative methods of conflict resolution, as well as the services provided in this area by the Judicial Branch.
- Gender Equality policy area: with the line of violence; sexual and reproductive health; and masculinities, we contribute with methodologies and processes to strengthen judicial institutions to help them in their task of protecting victims of violence, identifying risks and acting when they decide not to press charges. We also contribute towards guaranteeing access to education and health care for pregnant minors with the preparation of the Regulation and Implementation of Law 60, on under age pregnancy.
