The EUROsociAL+ Programme accompanies Mexico in several reforms of key public policies to improve social cohesion. It coordinates its action with Mexican institutions through the General Directorate for Europe, Asia and North America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union’s Delegation in the country.
Mexico participates in all three of the EUROsociAL+ Programme activity areas to acquire the best practice of its Latin American and European peers in the:
- Social Policies Area: with active political lines of action on employment and policies for young adults, adolescents and children, we support the reduction of informal employment. This contributes towards the transition from worker and working informality to formality, so that they have opportunities to access better conditions within the framework of dignified or decent work.
- Democratic Governance policy area: we work with the line of regional development action, which is aimed at updating Municipal Programmes and Urban Development Schemes, contributing towards the fulfilment of SDGs and the Northern Border Programme, which aims to propose public policy solutions that allow for a response to mass deportations. With the access to justice line of action we contribute towards the strengthening of public policies that guarantee the human rights of adolescents who find themselves in conflict with criminal law and who seek effective processes of social reintegration.
- Gender Equality Policy Area: with the line of economic autonomy and care we provide support for the evaluation of the impact of the Mexican Standard of Labour Equality and Non-Discrimination in certified work centres. We also propose recommendations for their improvement. Regarding violence; sexual and reproductive health; and masculinities, we support the evaluation and strengthening of the gender-based violence warning mechanism against women which was implemented in this country.
Mexico participates in the EUROsociAL+ Programme as a transferring agent of its good institutional practices in the application and evaluation of public policies for the prevention of gender-based violence and the inclusion of women in various areas of national life regarding aspects such as: management and development of people with a gender focus; good labour practices with a gender centric approach; national survey on gender-based violence; the gender perspective in the production and dissemination of statistics; making judgements from a gender-based perspective. Also, in the reactivation of Guatemalan-Mexican border relations, with a strategy for the prevention of natural phenomena, civil protection and post-event management. A system for measuring the right of access to information, strategies for citizen participation in local governments, urban development policy and evaluation of social programmes.
