Throughout 15 years of work, EUROsociAL has been assisting Costa Rica in the development and implementation of key reforms to advance social cohesion. Currently, EUROsociAL+ is assisting the country in 15 public policy processes in different sectoral areas, under an approach based on demand and results, with a multidimensional, inter-institutional and complementary focus, where the main-streaming of the gender approach and citizen participation has a key role.

In the country, actions with Costa Rican institutions are coordinated through the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy (MIDEPLAN) and the European Union’s Delegation in Costa Rica. Under this scheme, between 2018 and 2020, two Country Round Tables were held with broad institutional participation at which a Road map was agreed and updated enabling the implementation and monitoring of the actions and their results.

In 2020, a Systematisation exercise on the assisted policies was carried out with the country. This shows how EUROsociAL's performance in Costa Rica achieved significant sectoral and institutional coverage, enabling it to bring together, under the same cooperation programme, the three public powers (Executive, Legislature and Judiciary), while promoting citizen participation, either in the field of policy construction, or in access to new and/or better public services. The latter generated contributions for the advancement of policies and progress in the commitments within the framework of the 2030 agenda.
