Technical advice for transforming secondary education in Argentina

This EUROsociAL+ support forms part of the “Secondary 2030” strategy for all provinces in the country

Within the framework of support for the General Directorate for Culture and Education of the province of Buenos Aires, the second technical assistance mission led by expert Xavier Aragay has been carried out to improve the project-based learning model (the Spanish acronym of which is ABP). During the mission, different meetings were held with key educational figures in the province, as well as an inter-provincial meeting to share “Secondary 2030” learning and challenges with other Argentinian provinces.

The first of these meetings was attended by 70 directors of different provincial programmes (the Professional Training Schools Network, Promoting Schools and Private Administration Schools). Next, we worked internally with the project-based learning (ABP) team of the Professional Training Schools Network. This was followed by a training day on innovation and new trends in educational transformation involving the entire Network team.

The advisory mission ended with a meeting with authorities and managers involved in the New Secondary Curriculum Structure and the Graduate Profile. The central topic of this meeting was how to guide secondary school based on an organisational framework that includes: innovation, graduate profiles, learning concepts (active, real and empowering), skills development, digital skills, priority learning cores, emerging knowledge, integrated learning, learning progression indicators, educational practices, annual academic organisation plan, organisation of teaching work (job content creation and timetable requirements), and peer review.

At the Inter-provincial Technical Round Table meeting convened jointly by the Ministries for Education of both the Nation and the province of Buenos Aires, different Argentinian jurisdictional districts were invited to participate in the 2030 Secondary Project. The Round Table was chaired by Mercedes Miguel, Secretary for Innovation and Educational Quality of the Central Ministry for Education, and Agustina Blanco, Provincial Director of Evaluation and Planning of the Province of Buenos Aires, along with directors of Middle School Education. It was attended by representatives of the education ministries of the provinces of Río Negro, San Luis, Jujuy, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Buenos Aires province.
