EUROsociAL+ promotes an agreement in support of youth employment in Mexico

Mexican public institutions responsible for employability, businesses and civil society unite to promote dual apprenticeship-work training for the youth population.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Mexico (STPS) has signed a collaboration agreement with the Alliance for Youth and Decent Work through which the civil organisations that integrate it will collaborate with Youth Building the Future (JCF), the scholarship programme aimed at in-company learning and working. The collaboration focuses on attracting and assisting young participants, who come from disadvantaged situations with high levels of poverty and violence (mostly women).

The Alliance for Youth and Decent Work is made up of more than 50 civil organisations, foundations, business organisations, and experts and academics.  These organisations will act as co-mentors or tutors in JCF youth training plans, providing technical training, work practices and the development of psycho-social skills, as well as regularisation in literacy and basic knowledge of mathematics, technology, engineering and science (STEM).

EUROsociAL+ develops activities at regional and national level to support the development of policies that integrate training and work. In this framework, it has worked closely with the Alliance and with related organisations in other Latin American countries, particularly to ensure that its method – coordination between companies, youth/families and the educational centres, personalised assistance for young people, supporting corporate training efforts, developing soft skills – becomes a stable component of apprenticeship plans and programmes or paid work practices, combining training and work.

Among other background performance aspects regarding the Social Policies area in the field of training and work, in 2019, the dialogue between companies and government in Uruguay on its policy “Bringing Together Education and Work” was supported, through the exchange of international experiences. Together with the EU-LAC Foundation, innovation experiences in education and vocational training related to the involvement of companies were selected through an international call.

EUROsociAL+ will continue to support the Alliance for Youth and Decent Work initiative at the international seminar that was planned to take place on the occasion of the signing of the agreement with STPS, and which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The participation of experiences from Europe, Uruguay and Brazil is planned to promote job placement in the labour market.
