Implementation of Restorative Juvenile Justice in Chile

The juvenile criminal justice system in Chile is regulated by Law No. 20,084, the Adolescent Criminal Responsibility Law of June 2007, which modified the principles that governed in relation to young offenders of the law. This law introduced a substantial change by moving from a guardianship system to one of guarantees and rights, in line with the standards of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, and creating a specialized juvenile justice system focused on the reintegration of adolescents.
