Corruption and gender series: Sandra Paola Hitcher Angulo, provincial prosecutor of the Loreto prosecutor’s office, specialising in human trafficking crimes within the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Peru.

The falsification of birth certificates or identity documents that falsely accredit the age of women who are minors in order to sexually exploit them, is a clear example of the connection between human trafficking and corruption.

Opening criminal investigations against these corrupt officials, while bringing them to the attention of the institutions in which they work in order to quickly remove them from service is one of the strategies used in the fight against human trafficking.
