Argentina and France exchange experiences on pension system reform

The EUROsociAL+ Social Policies Area, coordinated by IILA, has supported reciprocal dialogue between the Argentine Secretariat of Social Security and the main actors in the French retirement system.

Within the framework of accompanying action for technical teams from the Argentine Secretariat of Social Security, two exchange workshops were held between technical teams from the Directorate of Social Security (Argentina) and the president of the Pension Guidance Council of France.

The aim was to discuss three topics of interest for Argentina, in particular (i) retirement reform processes, (ii) special and autonomous regimes and (iii) the sustainability and financial balance of the pension system. Both countries have been undergoing pension reform processes, and have similar characteristics in terms of the fragmented nature of the architecture of the different pension regimes and pension funds by which they are administered.

The Social Security Secretary at Argentina’s Ministry of Labour, Luis Bulit Goñi, highlighted the interest in maintaining this type of technical exchanges, which enable contributions to the discussion that is today being maintained in Argentina, and that seeks to look at consensual solutions to make social security more inclusive, supportive and equitable. He thanked colleagues from France for the excellent presentations they shared, as well as the French Embassy in Argentina and the EUROsociAL+ Programme, which worked together on the activities.
