Last November, the European Commission launched a new phase of the EUROsociAL Programme under the name EUROsociAL+, allocating a budget of €32 million, to be executed over the five years of action, for its implementation.
This new phase seeks to lend continuity to the mandate established in 2005 within the framework of the LAC-EU Summit of Heads of State and Government, which explicitly stated the importance of social cohesion as a priority element in the bi-regional strategic partnership. Since then, and throughout its more than 10 years of existence, the European Commission has been supporting, through its EUROsociAL Programme, processes for the design, reform and implementation of public policies in Latin American countries.
In this new phase, EUROsociAL+ is concentrating its action in the areas of Gender, Governance and Public Policies, promoting the inclusion of the gender perspective as a central and cross-cutting element of the programme. In doing so, it seeks to highlight the implications and effects that diverse public policy stages have on men and women, emphasising the need for policies and programmes, in all areas, to address this focus and gradually work to reduce the inequality gap, generating a positive impact on social cohesion.
The programme, which includes the participation of more than 50 Partner Institutions working in diverse interest sectors in Latin America and Europe, is managed by a consortium made up of FIIAPP (Spain), Expertise France (France), IILA (Italy) and SICA (Central America), with these first three institutions being responsible for the thematic areas of the programme.
In the first months of work, visits to the beneficiary countries are planned to make contact with the main public institutions involved in the current policy reform agenda of each country and to initiate a dialogue process to generate demands that will enable identification of sectoral reform actions that might eventually receive support from EUROsociAL+.
