Fundamental elements of the ESSALUD family care model in Peru
Author / Authors: Eduardo MissoniPublication date: 10/03/2022
The EUROsociAL+ European Union Program provided technical support for the implementation of the “Comprehensive Care Model” of Peru’s Social Health Insurance -EsSalud-. This is a medical and social model that incorporates health promotion and prevention tasks, with the active participation of the community, in what is called extramural work. This document compiles the work of EUROsociAL+ and EsSalud. It makes available to other public administrations the substantial elements that allow reaching more ambitious thresholds in family-centered health care. The relevant elements are defined to ensure the implementation of the Family Care Model, as a gateway to the health care system, meeting the health needs of the population and gender and ethno-cultural specificities. The document highlights these elements: the community and territorial approach; community participation; integrated models for care, which are based on a multisectoral approach and work based on multidisciplinary teams
