The voices of Colombian rural women in the access and use of financial services and products

The gender equality area of ​​the EUROsociAL+ European Union Programme, together with the Fund for Financing the Agricultural Sector (FINAGRO) and the Directorate for Rural Women and the Directorate for Agricultural Financing and Risks of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia, developed technical assistance to improve the supply of credit instruments and financial services available to rural women.
This document is the result of a first phase of this technical assistance, whose objective is to collect and analyze the available national evidence on obstacles or barriers identified in the supply of credit products and financial services for rural women in Colombia. Dialogue processes were promoted with peasant, indigenous women, women from Afro groups, farmers or artisans, to learn from their perspective, what are the main difficulties in accessing services and credits and financial entities; and the abilities to understand and meet the requirements for the application and in the period of granting the credit. The objective is to generate financial products that can reach this group. The women’s suggestions are extremely necessary for the development of public policies and lines of credit in public-private banking that address the urgencies of reducing rural poverty and improving the quality of life of women. rural women.
