This Protocol on Legal Assistance to Migrants and Refugees in Border Areas is a technical assistance requested by the Public Defender’s Office (DPU) of Brazil to the EUROsociAL+ Program of the European Union. The objective is to accompany the DPU in the implementation of the Regional Defense Model for the Defense of People in the Context of Mobility at the national level. This Regional Defense Model was carried out by the EUROsociAL Program for the Inter-American Association of Public Defenders (AIDEF). In the case of Brazil, the implementation of the Regional Defense Model is marked by the challenges that the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have imposed to maintain the migratory law commitments set out in the new law 13,445 of May 27, 2017 (in force since November 2017). Implementing the Regional Defense Model for the Defense of People in the Context of Mobility in Brazil, is proposed to strengthen the response capacity of federal public defenders for migration and refuge in border areas.
