Panorama of Aging and Care for Dependency in Costa Rica

There is a growing demand for dependency care services in Costa Rica, due to the aging of the population and the presence of chronic diseases. Estimates based on the National Survey on Disability, around 280 thousand people face difficulties to autonomously perform basic activities of daily life. Costa Rica is ready to move quickly in building a national system of long-term care, an issue that is already included in the public agenda. This technical note is part of a series of studies on aging and care services for dependent people in Latin America.
