Conceptual and propositional approach for a new institutionality of social protection
Latin American learnings for the case of the Dominican Republic
Author / Authors: Fabián RepettoPublication date: 01/06/2022
This publication is the product of the work carried out by EUROsociAL+ with the Social Policy Cabinet of the Dominican Republic, which coordinates the Commission for the review and restructuring of policies and programs aimed at social protection and assistance. The publication has a double dimension. On the one hand, it proposes some fundamental theoretical guidelines on social institutions, defined as a framework of norms and structures that frame social protection policies and programs, also allowing different degrees of coordination. The other dimension, limited to the Dominican case, presents some interventions to define what could be a new body (with Ministry status), responsible for non-contributory social protection, its areas of intervention, a proposal for an organizational structure and some institutional guidelines. and operational management. These two dimensions combine to generate a high-quality input that we are sure can contribute to the political debate on the social institutions of the Dominican Republic and Latin America and the Caribbean.
