This session is part of the series of webinars “Chile- Europe Dialogues” organised between the Library of the National Congress, the Directorate of International Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies, the Chilean Agency for International Cooperation (AGCID) and the Delegation of the European Union in Chile, with the support of the EU EUROsociAL+ programme to promote social cohesion.

The series of webinars has been structured around six round tables. Round Table I intends to reflect on the democratic principle which today is seriously threatened. The drafting of a new Constitution in Chile is the best opportunity to strengthen both the instruments of direct democracy, citizen participation, transparency and good governance, as well as the mechanisms of representative democracy themselves.

In Session 1, the first issue was specifically addressed, improving direct citizen participation. In this 2nd Session, we will deal with how to strengthen the relationship between representatives and represented, how to strengthen ties between voters and the representatives elected by them, in short, how to stop people feeling that they have been forgotten by those they elect to defend their rights and interests.
