Panorama of Aging and Care for Dependency in Colombia

The Colombian population is aging and it is aging at an accelerated rate, increasing the proportion of people who need third party support to carry out their daily activities. According to the latest available data, 21.2% of the population aged 60 and over in Colombia suffers from some degree of dependency, which is equivalent to around 1.1 million people. The objective of this study is to document, on the one hand, the growing demand for dependency support services and, on the other, the current state of supply to cover said demand, and the role of the government in structuring, regulating and providing of the services.
