Recíprocamente: facilitating a mutual look at social cohesion between Latin America and Europe

EUROsociAL is a programme for cooperation between the European Union and Latin America that contributes to reducing inequality, improving levels of social cohesion and strengthening the institutions of 19 Latin American countries. It provides support for the process of designing, reforming and implementing public policy, focusing its action on the areas of gender equality, democratic governance and social policy.

Since 2005, when the first phase of the programme began, EUROsociAL has been providing a space for peer-to-peer learning and experience exchange between counterpart institutions of the two regions, favouring the use of a broad catalogue of tools relevant to each process. In this third version of the programme, after fourteen years the good practices remain, such as this magazine and blog called Recíprocamente, which is a tool created in EUROsociAL II on the initiative of the associate IILA, in which views on social policies were exchanged.

Today, Recíprocamente aims to facilitate countries’ mutual knowledge in the areas of gender, governance and social policy. Starting our first edition with this product where we deal with issues such as trust and inequalities.

Recíprocamente is a two-monthly blog within the EUROsociAL+ website and a half-yearly digital magazine with articles and interviews with experts, academics, officials, and public policy decision-makers, who address the agenda of social cohesion on both sides of the Atlantic.

Recíprocamente is conceived from the knowledge management principles of the EUROsociAL Programme:

  • Reciprocity between the European Union and Latin America, which invites the regions to activate mutual learning processes, both having much to contribute in generating innovation and knowledge relating to public policies for social cohesion.
  • The principle of utility, which seeks to generate useful knowledge to nurture the agendas that guide the actions of EUROsociAL+
  • The principle of sustainability, the search to contribute to strengthening platforms that operate as permanent mechanisms of exchange, learning and collaborative work both in Latin America and between the EU-LA.
  • Incorporation of the academic perspective into technical processes, in its role as a creator and disseminator of knowledge.

We thank the people who have participated in this first edition of Recíprocamenteand we hope that it will be a permanent space for everyone to present their ideas, experiences and knowledge. Welcome, this space is open for you.
