EUROsociAL PLUS MISSIONS IN LATIN AMERICA

EUROsociAL+ will focus its support to public policies on gender, democratic governance and social policy, and to the institutions that design and implement them. To launch this process, the Programme is currently in the phase of identifying the demands and priorities expressed by the public institutions of the 18 Latin American countries participating in the Programme in these three thematic areas. These missions resume the policy dialogue between Latin America and EUROsociAL, with the coordination of the delegations of the European Union and the Latin American foreign offices. This phase will enable definition of the strategic lines of work by country at regional level under the criteria of continuity, intersectorality, sustainability and contribution to social cohesion. Up to now, missions have been carried out in Argentina, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia and Mexico; plans for the new phase include the start of encounters with the institutions of El Salvador, Honduras, Brazil and Ecuador. Missions to Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Cuba and Venezuela are anticipated for the final phase.

Within the framework of the German presidency of the G20, the WOMEN 20 (W20) conference was held in Berlin with the main goal of promoting the economic empowerment of women as an integral part of the G20 process. This forum highlighted the fact that while progress on gender equality policies has been significant, in 2017 we are still far from true gender equality. EUROsociAL participated in this forum through its gender equality area, and its commitments will include supporting a WOMEN 20 agenda during the coming Argentine G20 presidency.

Under the title “Transparency and access to public information, a global issue”, EUROsociAL+ shares its experience in promoting transparency as a privileged space for the construction of states with greater openness. As a continuation of the previous phase of the programme, we are promoting this right through peer-to-peer experience exchanges between the two regions.

GENDER MAINSTREAMING IN EUROsociAL AND 'LAS PODEROSAS'

cid:image015.png@01D2C008.68B1F490

Mainstreaming is a strategic and permanent process of analysis and work to fight gender discrimination and the mechanisms by which it is reproduced in the everyday application of public policies. Its overall purpose is progress towards real equality in all areas. In addition to this approach, EUROsociAL will also incorporate the views of civil society and, to do so, it learned from the experiences and insights of a group of Guatemalan women, 'Las Poderosas', who promote the empowerment of women and their right to live free of violence through art and theatre.
